Business Research: Week 2 Part B

Business Research: Week 2 Part B:

There are so many ways in which a brand can utilize social media for business. I have researched five different brands to discover their ways of marketing, the use of social media, and what they do to promote. The five businesses I researched were; Society6, Reformation, Sororite Vintage, Vogue Magazine, and Revolve.

Society6:

The first brand I researched is Society6; this is a brand that focuses on being a space for artists to upload their work and sell it. They offer many different forms of merchandise but focus on the room and house decor of all kinds. I have been very interested in their concept and idea of showcasing artists. They are a larger brand with an annual income of around 32 million per year, with around 60 employees. They are locally based in Santa Monica, California.

They did a perfect job of displaying their socials on their site at the bottom panel, which is where I initially imagined for them to be. They are @Society6 on Pinterest, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

Pinterest seemed to be very organized and coordinated which is built up to 559k. They are very consistent a couple times everyday and posted their last post today. On Facebook, they have a following of a little over 851k. They post more on their Facebook, and share several photos a day, with their last post being today. Society6 uses twitter the same amount as Facebook and at 92k, their last picture was also today. Instagram has the same gist being with their last picture today and posting several times a day, with a following of 744k.

What I learned from Society6 is that all of the social media must be linked, because they all posted the same amount and the same content, but all of the media were active.

Reformation:

Reformation is the second brand that I researched. They are a clothing brand for teens to adults that specializes in sustainability. They are a large and well-known brand based in Los Angeles, California.

They have three social media accounts on Instagram, Pinterest, and Facebook. Instagram is at @reformation and is at 1.6m followers. Pinterest is at @jointhereformation and is at 190k followers, and Facebook is at @reformation and is at 293k followers. On their Pinterest it seems that they post consistently every day, the last post being yesterday. Their Facebook and Instagram seem to be linked and sharing the same photos at the same time, but with that, they are sharing at least one picture every day, and the last picture being yesterday.

On their social platforms, they are consistent, and really utilize social media shopping cart options.

Sororite Vintage:

Sororite Vintage is the third brand that I researched. They are a clothing brand that focuses on selling reworked vintage luxury brands and is based in Paris, France. They as well as Reformation have a mission of sustainability and focus on their eco-friendly approach. They are a growing brand and are already quite large. They only focus on having two social media, being Twitter at 734 followers and Instagram at 381k followers, both at the handle @sororitevintage. Similar to Reformation, Sororite Vintage also uses the linking system and posts the same content on both accounts. They are very consistent posting every day, and their latest post being today. They seem to utilize their socials for the sole purpose of getting them out to the public before their weekly launches every Friday, that sell out within the hour of release due to social media.

Vogue Magazine:

Vogue Magazine (America) is the fourth company that I researched. I find them very interesting because they are such a large brand and utilize social media like a web. They are a magazine publication that has been around for decades focusing on beauty, lifestyle, and fashion. They were originally founded in New York City.

You can find them on Pinterest, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook all at the handle @voguemagazine.

The first media is Instagram with 28.4 million followers. They tend to post 2 to 3 times a day, and their last post being this morning. Second is their Pinterest with 1 million followers. They are just as consistent on this media like Instagram with their last post being today. Next is Twitter with 13.7 million followers. I have seen them post on this at most 5 times a day, and that is not counting reposts, the last post was 3 minutes ago. The last social is Facebook with 9 million followers, they are posting the same content at the same time as Twitter.

Vogue is a large company, and are using social media constantly, which causes them to have their brand out being discovered all the time.

Revolve:

The last brand that I researched is Revolve. This is a large clothing company that focuses on fast-fashion rather than sustainability. Their clothing is geared towards the same audience but is more about cute cheap clothing. They are a well known and large brand based in Los Angeles and earn around $1 billion a year.

You can find them on Instagram, Youtube, Twitter, Pinterest, Facebook, and even Snapchat. These are either the handle @revolve or @revolveclothing. Their Facebook is at 1.3 million and they seem to post every 1 to 2 days, with their last post being 11 hours ago. Their Instagram is at 4.2 million, and they post about 9 photos a day, with their latest post being 2 hours ago. Their Twitter is at 41.4k but they seem to not post frequently with their last post being May 19th. Their Pinterest has 120k and they seem to post every day, with their last post being yesterday. Lastly, their Youtube is at 8.91k and seems to post 1 to 2 photos a week, with their last video being 12 hours ago. Revolve uses almost all the popular forms of social media, and remains heavily on Instagram, dabbling in the rest.

Final Thoughts:

After the research of these brands brought me a deeper understanding of how businesses use socials for their brand and how they utilize them. I didn’t realize how many forms of media could be used for branding purposes and all the ways in which brands put their face out there. The main socials that brands used were Instagram, Pinterest, and Facebook; however, some also used Twitter, Snapchat, and Youtube. I found it very interesting how many brands used many different outlets to reach different audiences that the other social media platform may be lacking in.

I analyzed a couple things that the brands did to get the best use out of each platform with also being efficient. The first thing is certain brands filtered and linked all their content through a few platforms, an example of that would be when they post the same content at the same time on Instagram, Pinterest, and Facebook all at once. Another way I see them utilizing the socials is by letting go of certain platforms that may not be serving them, to get the most of their time and energy on the platforms that bring them the most engagement.

All in all, I saw the intelligent and savvy ways in which the brands all used socials to maximize engagement to their site and grow their audience, all to attract customers.

Until next time,

  1. It is very intriguing how many followers all these companies have on their social media. I find that to speak volumes about the companies reputation. After seeing your companies followers I wonder if any of my companies are using social media as effective as they could be.
